The Rainbow Song
02:09
|
|||
You treat me like a rainbow, all beautiful and nice,
a graceful arc stretched on the blue that smells of sun and spice.
You treat me like a rainbow, a mist-thing, quite obscure,
and whether i am really there you never can be sure.
You treat me like a rainbow, so delicate, so fair,
you wonder what i'm made of and if i really care.
You treat me like a rainbow, to wish on and to dream,
you follow me in hopes to see a crock of golden gleam.
You treat me like a rainbow, an angelic mass of hue,
a myriad of broken light, a wondrous color stew...
I'm not used to people realizing the rainbow in my soul,
but my friend, you see - and encourage me - to be more colorful!
...I feel like a rainbow when i am with you.

Anyway
02:24
|
|||
Would that i could live off of affection,
to eat, to drink, to breathe it everyday,
to bathe in it, admiring its perfection,
and know that i'm sustained in every way...
But there are bills to pay, kids to feed,
work to do, gardens to weed,
sleep to get, houses to clean,
and i just don't have time for anything.
I don't have time for anything
so insubstantial, shaky or so wishful,
a dream that i can't see or touch or hear.
Yet this world has handed me one murky dishful,
and without you i have everything to fear.
But there are people to meet, places to be,
restaurants to eat at, movies to see,
holidays, cocktails, love songs to sing,
and i just don't have time for everything.
I don't have time for this.
And i don't want to hear you, see you,
don't want to feel your presence lighting up my life,
i want to sustain myself.
But i'm so miserable, so empty, overwhelmed and tired,
and so scared, God...i am so scared.
Do you remember when i lived off your affection?
I'd talk and walk with you, oh, everyday.
And you knew all about my imperfection,
and you washed me in divine love anyway.

Worthless Physician

I'm a Self-Righteous Heart Doctor, Worthless Physician.
Call me for wisdom, give me a mission.
I'll clear out my schedule and donate a day
to come to your sickbed and tell you to pray.
I've seen it before and i know what to do.
I'll give you direction and sympathy, too,
i'll give you a lesson in Spiritual Nutrition,
'cause i'm the Self-Righteous Heart Doctor, Worthless Physician.
I'm the Self-Righteous Heart Doctor, Worthless Physician.
Call me for answers, i'll make you my mission.
I'll clear out my schedule and donate a day
to come to your sickbed and tell you to pray.
Don't try to reason and do not defend,
you called me to tell you that i'm your best friend.
I've maxims and proverbs to offer for free,
just say that i'm awesome and seek after me. Please.
I'm a Self-Righteous Heart Doctor, Worthless Physician.
I've plenty of pathos, and endless conviction.
I'll share with you - all of it - no extra fee...
just say i'm not worthless, and seek after me, please. Please?
